dirty south,
#1New Post! Jul 19, 2009 @ 23:16:39
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,
but had once failed an entire class.

--------------------------------------------

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer..

The professor then said, "OK,
we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering,
blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

Good point!

Had never really thought about it that way, but makes perfect sense..

I always thought socialism sounded like a good idea..
Guess i never really thought it through in its entirety.

Hmmm. That would be accurate if you replace the name Obama with the word Communism.

I don't agree with what he said entirely, but I am CERTAINLY NOT blinded by any light shed from Obama. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Oh my f***ing god, how many times will this be regurgitated?

Two important points, firstly, that isn't how socialism works, see the other threads which use the same analogy to see why.

The second though is that you have added Obama to the mix. Obama is NOT a socialist, and nor does his politics have any bearing whatsoever to the example in the OP.

Okay, your not blinded by any light by any name . Right ?
Could you or would you explain why you "don't agree with what he said entirely" ? .

This is a post posted recently in response to the same OP:

An economics professor at a local college said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had insisted that capitalism worked and that no one deserving would be poor and everyone could be rich, a great reward motivator. The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on capitalism.

All grades would be graded and everyone would receive a grade based on merit. After the first test the grades were calculated. The students who studied hard (new money) or were previously given the answers (old money)were happy, the students who cheated were the happiest of the bunch and the students who studied little or could not afford the new text books and studied hard were un-happy.

At the second test. Those who recieved A's AND who had a "foot in door policy" or were heritage students were automatically given bonus
points. Those who had studied hard and recieved an A, B, or C were given extra questions to answer to porve their worth. Those who had done poorly were also given more questions but given less time (punishment) to complete the test subjects. So, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied hard but had not the resources began to get a little dispondent. The night before the test the uppercrust kids went out and partied for the points that carried over earned from their first test were enough to insure a "gentleman's A".

The scores for the underclass rarely if ever increased due to the lack of resources and penalty of not making the grade at the first test. The uppercrust graduated cum laude based on their first exam and becuase dad went to school there. The hardest working studens found themselves without a meaningful job, or one that pays little. The students that studied little work at Micky D's unless their dads were part of the uppercrust. Then they ran several failed businesses and after losing the popular vote had the supreme court overturn the election results to become some sort of presidential vegetation that depleted the countries reserves and started a war.

/////

To reiterate, not my post, and I don't believe this completely sums up all forms of capitalism, but only in the same way the op doesn't sum up all forms of socialism.

Well first.

The analogy just doesn't fit for socialism.
As I said before, that analogy is more for communism(imo).

& second.

And I'm pretty sure Obama isn't a socialist. Why does everyone think that?

Why do you ask?

I didnt think i had heard of socialism being connected to Obama, but as im not American i thought maybe there was something i didnt know about.

I guess he is basing his opinion on Obamas speech when he was elected about bringing America together for the greater good of its people??
