Anyone who tries to advocate that nicotine is not addictive is either a tobacco company spy or just plain ignorant.

I smoke mainly cause I get bored really easy. I have several times quite just cause I wanted to. I went a little over a year once. For about 10 months another time. I didn't even crave them. Then I just decide to smoke agin cause I am bored. I can quit anytime I want to..cold turkey. I don't think it is at all addicting. It's mind over matter. You have to want to quit.

Actually it is scientificlly proven. Nicotine is rapidly absorbed through gum linings when tobacco is chewed or through gum or through the skin by a patch

Nicotine is not absorbed from cigarette smoke. Nicotine is an alkaloid and all alkaloids are sensitive to heat.

THC in pot is not an alkaloid...it is a glyceride

Do you have any "scientific proof" of this..?

Seriously, I'm not going to argue with you about it, and I know that when I quit smoking, the hot and cold flashes, the shaking, the irritability...it was all real.

Nicotine is very addictive. And so are cigarettes. Saying that it is "all in your mind" is just a wee bitover the top.

So, until you can cite me some scientific fact, and a link to back it up...I'm just going to laugh at you.

I dont need a link ... basic scientific biochemistry. All Alkaloids are sensitive to heat.

Lysergic Acid is an alkaloid and is sensitive to heat.

Delta Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is a semisynthetic amine of Lysergic Acid and is sensitive to heat.

Same with Psylocybin and Psilobin which are the psychedelic indole alkaloid structure within psilosybin mushrooms are sensative to heat. If you put them on a pizzza and put the pizza in the oven to cook the pizza is not going to be psychedelic. The same if you put them in brownie mix.

The only reason why pot and hash work in brownies is because THC is not an alkaloid, it is a glyceride which is an oily derivative from a plant or animal

Maybe you should take biochemistry again.

Actually I dropped out of Biology...but in regard to the comment...I dont need to take biochemistry again...completly synthetic alkaloids synthesized in organic chemistry are just as sensative to heat just as the semisynthetic delta-lysergic acid diethylamide.

I have taken chemistry. It is a proven fact. The structures created on Phenethyamine and Indole Structures are delacite. They cannot tolerate heat. Any heat above 100 degrees and the alkaloid is toast.

A cigarette heater is thousands of degrees...this is completly different. These are the types of temperatures required to melt heavy metals like zinc and iron not just heat for a catalyic reaction

Yet people become physically addicted to it everyday. People find it harder to stop smoking cigarettes than it is to stop shooting up heroine or smoking marijuana.

Furthermore every study I can find on the subject says cigarettes are highly efficient nicotine delivery devices.

you ever smoked? You ever tried to quit? That's what I thought.

However, on an aside, there are literally hundreds, if not thousands of chemicals in cigarretes, many of which could potentially be addictive in their own right. So who knows? It may not be the nicotine, but cigarettes are addictive, indisputably.

Natalie,

With all due repect, smoking is just plain stupid. It does not look cool or pretty or grown up. It makes your skin, breath, hair and clothes smell bad. It stains your teeth and fingers. It coarsens your tongue which isn't good for kissing. It's not necessary to smoke to be "sociable." Smoking just doesn't have anything positive going for it.

It is expensive in the way of money and your health and maybe even your life. If you're going to smoke once or twice a month, I guarantee that you will smoke more and more and then you'll have a filthy habit to deal with.

All this stuff about it not being addictive is absurd. Just ask someone with a 2 pack a day habit if it's all in their mind.
Cigarettes contain acetone, ammonia, and acetone among other toxic checmicals.

As late as the 70s, people didn;t know that smoking was bad for them. So they had an excuse for their ignorance. But we live in more educated times now, You're young enough to know better, in other words.
