No, dark clothing and dark heavy makeup is not goth, just as punk is, goth is a way of life. Emo would be considered the same. I generally wear a lot of dark clothing and such, I'm not goth. Because I like the color black and choose to wear it often, that does not make me goth. I have a female friend who wears ties and has short cut hair with longer bangs and she's not emo.

Yes, as I stated in the opening topic, **Give or take** or something like that.. basicly, there are exceptions to everything. Life as well.

I'm sorry for this whole topic, it's just, I've been getting called emo whore and razor slut and stuff lately at school, and it's ticking me off. I told my mom recently that I used to cut (I know, horrible me, fueling the flames of emoness -_-) and she made me take off these bracelets I've been wearing for three years. So I have this bad tan line which draws peoples attention to the scars even more then should be. Therefore provoken these names and to top it off I'm not allowed to see my boyfriend anymore because he's not "mentaly stable either" and may make me start up again.. um.. earth to mother. He convinced me to stop.. Well there's my nightly rant.

I've seen a few teenagers as you've described who are no way "emo". The "emos" most people hate are the one's who've had a great life and everything handed to them and all they can do is complain. That's pretty sad if you ask me, if your parents buy you a car, buy your clothing, cook and clean for you and all you can do is complain about how miserable your life is, you need to find something better to do. No one wants to hear that, and that's the "emos" most people hate.

Dark clothing and dark heavy makeup is goth. That's completly different. Nothing like "emo" at all. "Emos" wear tight clothes, dark or striped.

No, dark clothing is not goth. Some goths wear a lot of white, or colors, and some do not wear any make up at all.

Does dressing in bright clothes cheer your day up? You feel better then when in darker clothes right? Clothing and colours affect our brains and can stimulate them. This is why the way we dress can, and will, affect our moods.

I don't really agree with that. Sometimes I just get up and go in the boxers and t-shirt that I slept in. Sometimes I'll wear black and be completely happy while other times I'll wear super bright colors and feel like poop.
You do know that black is also considered a soothing color right? Lots of people find the color black comforting. I'm sure that colors can have an affect on people in ways... but opionions on colors change with each individual.
So... saying that people feel better in brighter clothing more than they do in darker clothes isn't completely true. For some maybe so, but not for everybody.

FFS!!!!!

ok now the amout of time people have put a f***ing post up saying this pisses me off. i know people can and should put what ever they want up but come on now,

ever herd the saying "water off a ducks back"
all sorts of people get made fun of; chavs, goths; old people ( i kid ) and so on, but they take it as a joke or don't give a s***.
if someone says something about you, who care, you shouldn't. as long as you feel comfortable about who you are then who gives a f*** about what other people say.

This is just seattle all over again. The next generation will not be called emo, it will just be a passing phase. You don't hear of anyone being called "grunge" anymore do you?

hmm emo, it actually means emotive hardcore, derived from emotional punk, and people who listen to it are emo's, just like people who listen to rap are rappers
