All of this, it's very reminiscent of what the Ainu and Kamchadal have suffered at the hands of the modern Japanese people and the Japanese Government... It's all very sad.

Doesn't matter where in the world you go. Sadly, most if not all of the countries nowadays have exploited the Native people in some form or another.

I get really pissed off when I read about pipelines, because literally all of the rights are in favour of the oil companies. You can't sue them. You can't protest them. You can't do anything. And in the very likely scenario of a pipe leak or toxic run-off from the process, or contaminated groundwater seeping into the water supply, or explosion, or anything like that, then it's only like a $125,000 fine or some bulls*** and they can keep raping the land to their hearts content. Win/win, except for the displaced animals, the destroyed landscape, the First nations people whose land was stolen... again, everyone living near the pipeline, everyone living in the same State as the pipeline, etc...

My grandfather was half yaqui. Dont really know him, never did.

I always wondered if you as a native American feel kinship with all tribes or just your own?

Like you say ""taking back the country" which maybe is not serious but its not unserious either. Do you feel like the whole country should be yours or maybe just your ancestral lands? I think about individual tribes and thats how i see them. As individuals.

Serious question man even if it doesn't seem like it.

Solidarity for sure. Divide & conquer being their most useful tool after their germs hit.

Standing in line behind the First Nations are the farmers and ranchers when it comes to being f#*ked by the government. We can cross our fingers and hope that ,that pipeline doesn't spring a leak in the area of any of those hundreds of waterways .

As to your "one nickel at a time" I'm a cheapskate, I play the penny machines .

Shhhhhh! So do we!

Yeah for sure. I cannot see how anyone does not see that building the pipeline that affects a poor minority to avoid the white majority population of Bismarck is anything but environmental racism.

"Environmental racism refers to intentional or unintentional targeting of minority communities or the exclusion of minority groups from public and private boards, commissions, and regulatory bodies. It is the racial discrimination in the enactment or enforcement of any policy, practice, or regulation that negatively affects the environment of low-income and/or racially homogeneous communities at a disparate rate than affluent communities."

Not to mention missing the cultural truths that all cultures share but are very diverse. Many many answers to modern problems would be found.

That's how capitalism works. Its gotten us pretty far. It may not be working anymore. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. Hopefully from a distant distance.
Capitalism is about free trade, nothing to do with going against what you say you're going to do. There's a whole lot of words to describe what that is.

The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues has agreed with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the nearly 200 other tribes that say the Dakota Access oil pipeline’s route was mapped out without adequate consultation.

“The project was proposed and planned without any consultation with the Standing Rock Sioux or others that will be affected by this major project,” said Chairman Alvaro Pop Ac, in a joint statement with Forum members Dalee Dorough and Chief Edward John.

The U.N. body went on to outline the $3.8 billion project’s parameters and the threat to security and drinking-water access for not only the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe but also for millions of people living downstream from the Missouri River, which the pipeline would cross.

“Given these circumstances, we call on the government of the United States to comply with the provisions recognized in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and ensure the right of the Sioux to participate in decision-making, considering that the construction of this pipeline will affect their rights, lives and territory,” the statement said, quoting Article 19 of the U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. “States shall consult and cooperate in good faith with the indigenous peoples concerned in order to obtain their free, prior and informed consent before adopting and implementing legislative or administrative measures that may affect them.”

Capitalism would work better if it weren't for the greed of man.
Gaming the system, corruption and flat out cheating will eventually crash the system.

Environmental Racism Explained

Racism isn't just about police brutality or the criminal justice system. It's in the air and water. The water crisis in Flint, Michigan is a textbook case:
