I made this thread because I'm interested to know how long different schools in different countries get for their summer break.

Over in England we get about 6 weeks, but in other countries it seems like they get several weeks longer

If you don't go to school, how long do the kids in your area get off for summer break?

I was chatting to a headteacher last night Laura, and he said there are moves to move to different spaced terms. This would be one way they could get back at the greedy scumbag holiday companies who ramp up prices the nanosecond the schools break up.

So you mean like different schools have holidays at different times?

Yeah it pisses me off that you have to pay a s***load more to go away during the holidays

I'm not sure 100% what he meant, he was a bit rushed as it was an incoming parents meeting for the new term in September, and I was in a rush because there was no aircon and I was melting. I think he was meaning the terms would be more spaced out, so less weeks in summer, and maybe a week in say September. It sounded though like he thought different local authorities may select their own weeks (Which is the bit which would confuse holiday companies), but I guess in practice, there can't be that much of a difference - I mean, no-one is going to want to have a 6 week break in February, apart from a certain ski-mad teacher I used to have. Also some times are set in stone - everyone wants a week or two at Easter and Spring Bank.
Oh well

Hmmm I like the idea of having more holidays... I get so, so tired when we're nearing the ends of term I think it'd be a nice idea to break up the terms a bit more

When I was in high school we'd end classes in the first or second week of June. Then we'd have either one or two weeks where we only had to go in for exams. Usually we'd end around June 20 or a little after. Then we'd go back first week in September.

Now at my university we are done the first week of May and go back the last week of August.
