An easy one to start.
You are in a cell with a dirt floor and one window that is so high you cannot reach it.
The cell is empty except for a shovel.
It is hot and dry and you have no food or water.
If you do not break out of the cell you will die.
You try to dig a tunnel but a few feet down you find solid rock.
How do you get out of the cell?

dirt ladder to the window?
In essence, in a sense, yes - dependent on the geometry of the cell, volume of dirt available and placement of the window. |

| the op was in the cell, he hit himself over the head with the shovel.
it won't get him out of the cell.
it would make me feel better. |

| you build on the side of the cell's wall, below the window. make a pile of mud that you stand on and have balance on.
then if you use the shovel with your arms, and try bend the bars. if they are bars on the window. if there is enough to fit your body through the window.
then make the mud pile bigger and larger and high enough to jump to the window. then pull yourself up to the window with your feet.
and out you go. |

| OK you got it. that was an easy one.
This one is more difficult....
A woman tells the judge that her sister killed her husband.
All of the evidence supports her claim
Why can’t the judge punish the murderer? |

The "her"s are ambiguous - is it the judges sister, or the woman's sister the evidence points to? and is it the woman's husband, the judges husband or the sisters husband that is dead?
In any case ...
The judge is the sister / murderer

... well, specifically speaking - the judge only hands down sentences. But I don't think we were getting that picky ... are we?

Drat!! It is ambiguous. Double drat!
Do over:: The witness tells the jury that her sister is the murderer. |

This would have been the best answer to the question as I worded it.
Now that I have explained that it is the witness' sister who is the murder, what do you think? |

This is a good answer too.
I did not think this riddle through. alas....
The answer I had in mind was different.
What do you think my answer was? |
