How to sell on ebay

Could anyone tell me, just the complete basics of selling on ebay, you dont have to write loads, just enough to get it to sink into my thick skull...

Basically what i want to do is just sell a few things, ive made an ebay account, what next? Do i need paypal?
Are there any hidden costs with paypal, making bids etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and ye shalt be lavished with Kudos.

Thanks for this, you've just reminded me that I need to put something up for sale for my dad, and I haven't got a clue how eBay works either.

Probably it is best to have paypal, though I don't another procedure how to get it in your account
