How do I make grass grow?

I am in southern Arizona and I can't get my grass to grow for anything. The dirt here is really bad. It drives me nuts due to this house being the only house I have without grass. I will be selling it this comming winter, but would really like ideas on how to get grass to grow down here.

you have to be holding your mouth just right too..
here in florida, all you need to do to grow
grass is breathe

I never have in problems in Missouri or Georgia, grass is easy there. Thank you for the link to the Uof A website. I am going to go buy some Bermuda and try that.
