The new F1 season started last night with the first Grand Prix being held in Australia.

Ferrari won, as usual but the second and third places went to the Mercedes Maclaren team. Third place was won by the new British driver Louis Hamilton who had a podium place in his first ever Grand Prix.

Now I bet by now you have either stopped reading or are wondering why I have a sport thread in society and lifestyles?
The question is this guy is black.
I've never known another black F1 driver before.

Yet I have not seen one word being spoken or written about this fact and was wondering is this a sign that at last people are being seen for what they are capable of and not as simply a colour or race?

The Mirror referred to him during the week as F1's first black driver.

Apart from that they just went on to say how Ron Dennis has sponsered his career from when he was about 8 and how he is looking to be a very fast racer.

Ok well I took the liberty of doing some research on this topic. and come across this site.

https://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2006/09/14/first-black-formula-one-driver/

In it it tells you that Hamilton was not the first black formula one driver. Hence why there hasn't been so much buzz about his ethnic background.

Quote:
F1 anoraks will already have an inlking where I?m heading with this one: Hamilton is not the first black person to have driven a Formula One car. That unique place in F1 history belongs to American William Theodore Ribbs Jnr, better known as Willy T. Ribbs.

Still I think very well done to him for coming third.

In that case, I, and The Mirror, stand corrected

There is a big mess going on right now just before the Malaysian F1GP.

Seems that the people who run the F1 circus came knocking on the door of Singapore... to host another South-East Asian F1 on the streets of Singapore.. AT NIGHT!

Of course, Malaysia isn't very happy about it and has blatantly blasted Singapore for "competing" with them.

I wonder if there will actually be a stop in Singapore in the near future. It would be great to watch one at home. 8)
