I have tested the drive in another pc and it works, I've swapped the leads and no change, it lights up when starting the pc but it won't play anything.
I've looked in my computer and it doesn't even say there's a D drive installed.
System info acknowledges the drive so what on earth is going on?

Check the switch settings for master and slave.

Does the drive have power going to it? Does it eject when you press the button?

Take the drive out.

The Switch settings will be on the drive itself.
Check the Switch settings on the other device if there are 2 drives on the same IDE cable.

If there are 2, then set one as Master and one as Slave, or if you are not sure, use CS (Cable Select) for both.

If there is only one Device in the drive, make sure that the Switch is set to either Master or CS

Gah. Are jumpers really called switches in the UK? Regardless, if it just stopped working one day, telling her to change her master/slave settings is idiotic.

Take it one step at a time.

Make sure the PC is off.

Look at the ribbon cable plugged into the DVD drive. Make sure it's fully seated. Follow the cable to where it plugs into the mainboard. Make sure it's fully seated there.

There may be another device plugged in to a third connector on the *same* ribbon cable. If there is, make sure that third connector is fully seated.

Turn the PC on. Is it fixed?

And what exactly do you mean by "System info says it's there"?

There aren't 2, only one on the cable.
I've done the autodetect and checked the bios - all seems to be normal.

All checked twice, swapped with another that was working in another pc too and still nothing.
System info in system tools.

If you had actually read the original posts you would have seen that this is not the case.

I wish I could help you, but I have the same problem, maybe not exactly the same, but I have some missing drivers, and I can't even use my Brand new Digital camera I have until it's fixed Total bummer, so I have a friend coming over to check it out...

Do you know anyone that could come look at it for you?
Hope it works out for you sweety.
