Recently an aquaintance of mind, from my city, has gone to Afghanistan. I asked for his military mailing address, because I want to send him a care package. He was really thankful, gave me the address, but is shy when it comes to letting me know any neccesities that he would like sent.
Has anyone ever sent a care package before? Maybe some TFS G.I.Joes can be helpful in knowing what is good to get?
I am excited to get started on this and want it to be an absolutely rocking package, so I could use some helpful ideas.
Thanks!

Where's Juan when you need him. I'm clueless on this one. I've always been on a Cutter when i was away, and the cutter is like a home away from home. I don't know what soldiers out in Afghanistan or Iraq do and don't have.

The key isn't what you can send them, it's what you can't...look that up first and then go to town

I've sent a couple, with birthday/holiday cards, beef jerkey, board games, and those instant brownie kits where you just add water and cook...they can set them outside, and 20 minutes later they are ready to eat!

Juan will be a good one to ask, you are right!
I don't think I will send anything bad, but I will check for sure.

He says that it is hot as hell out there, and I can't think of anything to send to help alleviate that. Any ideas?
I thought I could send a package of big freezies as a part of it..but don't know if that is cheese, or if he will be allowed to stick them in a freezer and it be pointless.

Instant food (not things they'd get in ration packs), erm.., Magazines, toiletries, sweets.

I could ask my brother what sort of things he wanted when he was out in Iraq.

Of course they're all of me though and nobody wants to see that.

I say pack it full of chocolate
and maybe something to keep him entertained since there's a lot of boredom in such places, like travel scrabble!

I know that some of our lads had chocolate sent to them and by the time it got there it was melted!

Yea, you can't send things that melt easily.
