Alexander ...was he great? or just hitler in a skirt?

just saw a documentary about Alexander the great.The various experts were almost delirious in their praise for him.he was efficient at killing thousands of people and setting up puppet governments to rule in his name.Yet,isn't this similiar to the behaviour of a certain herr hitler, who is rightly condemned as a monster ?

A little like Hitler, minus the Jew extermination. Also sounds like Napoleon to me, but my knowledge of history is terrible. What about Charlemagne?
