Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone apparently thinks... that the county lead a campaign for as many as 13 Southern California counties to secede from the state.
Stone said in a statement late Thursday that Riverside, Imperial, San Diego, Orange, San Bernardino, Kings, Kern, Fresno, Tulare, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa and Mono counties should form the new state of South California.
The creation of the new state would allow officials to focus on securing borders, balancing budgets, improving schools and creating a vibrant economy, he said.
“Our taxes are too high, our schools don’t educate our children well enough, unions and other special interests have more clout in the Legislature than the general public,” Stone said in his statement.
Officials Call For 13 Southern California Counties to Secede
The story goes on to say a spokesperson was calling this a distraction. blah blah blah.
I've talked to a few of my friends who still live in Souther California and they of course for the most part all for it... with the exception of a few.
Any way, I'm not sure what exactly this would accomplish really. most of those counties are very barren; miles of what many consider wasteland.
To me the idea the guy has in his head may seem sound..
but I think more people would be affected negatively as a result.
It's not necessarily the same as creating a new country but pretty close I'd think.
As far as I know only Texas can legally be broken up. They might be able to site West Virginia as precedent, but that was also a special case. I think they'd have a real hard time proving they CAN secede from California.

For every dollar in federal taxes paid... https://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/22685.html
...California gets $0.78
...Oregon gets $0.93
...Washington gets $0.88
They pay into the system!
What are the reddest states? https://www.outsidethebeltway.com/the-five-reddest-states/
...Alaska gets $1.84
...Idaho gets $1.21
...Oklahoma gets $1.36
...Utah gets $1.07
...Wyoming gets $1.11
They are LEECHING off everyone else. Go figure! Without the west coast red states would be screwed!
The problem with these statistics is that it relies on the myth of "Red States" and "Blue States," but both terms were invented by the media so they can easily show which state is going to which candidate on election night. Any use beyond that is problematic to say the least.
