If we were to volunteer, what specifically would be doing? What does the job consist of?

Till the middle of July all the shifts on field are night shifts on the beach, supporting the nesting season of the turtles. These shifts are basically to number the adult mothers measure them and mark the nest...this is done so we can follow up on them the following year and so that the nests can be protected by a special cage that prevents both natural predation and shows beach users that there is a nest presentso they dont put their shezlongs on it. Volunteers coming during this season will be up most of the night on the beach gathering research information. Aside from this we hold educational seminars and stands at the numerous hotels in the Belek region aimed at increasing touristic awareness of how great a threat unchecked tourism is on the turtles.

By the begining of August to the end of September is the hatching season and the shifts are moved to early morning as that is when the babys dig themselves out of their nests. Nests that were not recorded during the night shifts are searched for and marked. Volunteers will be taught all necessary procedures involving location of nests and what threats need to be spotted and isolated.

how long are the shifts? and when we were not working are we at seminars or do we get free time?

of course you have free time we divide up time accordingly you wont be going on a shift everyday and you will have free time a night shift starts at about 10pm and ends maximum at 3am while the day shifts start at 6am and go till about 10am...seminars and stands are not set up every day but twice or thrice a week 8)
