No. The only fix that will not drive you absolutely mad is to put it back on properly.

if its not broken it should go back on, i know in personnel experience that when a key came of my laptop keyboard, it went back on.

but on a separate occasion a key came of but didn't go back on, as part of the plastic mounting had broken.

i also believe its possible to buy individual keys for a laptop keyboard.

Do you see any clip on the keyboard or even on the shift button, you may try sliding the key into the board, sometimes you may feel a "click" sound when it attaches properly.
