Monroe police arrest man for nailing wife inside their house

A Monroe man was arrested after reportedly holding his wife hostage and nailing up the house so she could not get out.

Monroe police this morning arrested Daryel D. Johnson, 39, 1412 S. Second St., on charges of domestic abuse battery, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.

Police reports stated that officers were patrolling South Second Street when a woman flagged them down.

The victim told police that she and her husband got into an argument because she was planning on leaving him and moving to Texas.

She told officers that Johnson held her against her will inside their home, slamming her head against the headboard of the bed. The 33-year-old woman also said that Johnson broke her phone so she could not call police, head-butted her and held her captive for around an hour.

The victim said she managed to escape through a window.

While police were questioning the victim, officers could hear Johnson nailing doors and windows shut inside the house.

Johnson tried to avoid officers, but was arrested. He was taken to Ouachita Correctional Center for booking.
