i get that but i always saw it as more of a mutual attraction between, in effect, sub-atomic ions

Saw what as a mutual attraction between sub-atomic ions?

(There's no such thing as a sub-atomic ion, by the way. An ion is by definition an atom or multiple atoms, so an ion could never be sub-atomic.)

the attraction between portons and electrons. and an ion cannot possibly be an atom because the def. of an ion is an atom that has gained or lost electrons to gain a positive or negative charge

An ion is, by definition, an atom with a net positive or negative charge. Ions are still atoms.

Sub-atomic particles are particles smaller than atoms such as electrons, protons, neutrons, positrons, quarks, leptons, etc.

The attraction between protons and electrons is solely as a result of electromagnetic attraction between a positive and negative charge.

@stumblinthrulife Said

That's just one of the whacked out ideas that continues purely because by definition it's impossible to disprove. Any "measurement of reality" is perception, and therefore falls under the original definition.

To all intents and purposes the idea is completely useless, and does nothing to further anything, other than making the person spouting it look intelligent to people less intelligent than they are.

a little untrue... if your ACTUALLY intelligent its a pretty interesting question.. in fact its (in a slightly different form) considered to be one of the deepest philosophical questions...
