I've been thinking about this, actually. It would be illegal for a church not to accept black people, fat people, blind people, or women.

I don't think I have a problem with making it illegal for a church not to accept gay people.

And that's the plan. Non-discrimination and egalitarian law will find leverage against the Church. First in Europe and then in North America. It may take another fifty years to take hold---probably less.

Our brothers and sisters in China have been illegally practicing Christianity for decades. But the Church is flourishing in China, so who's winning and who's losing?

Forcing churches to accept blacks wasn't an attempt to outlaw churches. Neither would forcing them to accept gays.

I don't believe any dictionary would agree with your definition.

The strongest Christian churches on earth are "black." How do we use white guilt to cow them? It won't be through doctrine. The scriptures won't allow for gay anything.

Raw power, the ability to buy and sell, will be the tool used to modify behavior.

So a murderer who admits that he is sinning will find his life?

Umm...yea. That is the christian faith! we are ...after all... ALL murderers!

We all have blood on our hands.

A religion and a chuirch is a place for people with the same beliefs to come together. If we are going to legally change those beliefs, then the belief system will not exist. Oh well, marraiges in churches were good once upon a time. Guess if this law comes in, Priests and Ministers will have to go against their own persona;l beliefs so they wioll probably stop. I know someone who knows 3 ministers who will shut their churches down if by law they are required to marry gay people as it is a direct violation of their own personal beliefs and their own morals.

“There is a very strong likelihood that the Court at Strasbourg will agree that it is an unlawful discrimination on those grounds and order the United Kingdom to introduce laws which will force Churches to marry gay people according to their rites, rituals and customs.”

That is from today's news dateline the UK.

Gay civil marriage won't be enough. The gay lobby will then sue for gay religious marriage but the churches won't comply. They will then be sued for discrimination and the government will have no choice but outlaw the assembly of the Church as a discriminatory "hate group."

I'm ready for it.

You might have that problem in the UK, but we won't here in the states because of our constitution which reads....

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

So, you can see that congress is barred from making laws that favor religions, or prohibit them..

See... We did learn something when we dumped your King George 236 years ago!

And now.. Back on topic.

This is about CIVIL marriage, not about "holy matrimony" (which is the appropriate name for the religious ceremony).

And since we're not talking about holy matrimony, and we are talking about civil marriage, can someone please tell me what the objection to it is?

This has nothing to do with the church, or god, or anything religious.. it's a formal contract made by the state which conveys legal rights and privileges to a couple.

Why should only straight people be allowed to get those rights and privileges?

Remember before you answer.. we're not talking about god or the church or religious ceremonies... we're talking about getting married by a justice or clerk at the county courthouse.

What is the objection?

Say, Boxer? Did God tell you not to be gay? How about you Alkaia?

I would normally answer that, but you're wearing a cotton/poly blend t-shirt... so I'm afraid that as a gay man, I'm not allowed to fraternize with you.

Switch to cotton and I can answer without them coming and taking away my gay card.

but on topic, I'm not insane, so I don't hear the voices of imaginary beings. I've had a couple of guys named Jesus tell me that they were really glad that I'm gay though.. And a Matthew, and a Mark, and a John..

Suppose I should be on the lookout for a good looking Luke.

Does that count?

If that is all y'all want you can have all that without calling it marriage.

Bottom line...

You just want me to think it is okay.

O and the objection to it is ... by doing it you steal marriage from all heterosexual couples to whom marriage was intended by God for.

How does my marriage steal yours?
How does my marriage affect your marriage in any way shape or form?
How does my marriage affect an opposite sex couples marriage at all?

And marriage is a civil contract that is owned by the state. God has nothing to do with it.

By your rules, atheists, agnostics, Buddhists, Wiccans, and everyone else who doesn't believe in your god should not be allowed to get married.

Finally, I don't give a tiny rats a** what you think Glenn. Your life and your thoughts and feelings are far less important than you would believe. 99.999999999% of the people on earth don't give a s*** about what you think.

If Glen got that out of my post, when I clearly stated CIVIL marriage and clearly stated that it had nothing to do with god or the church, then Glenn obviously has trouble with reading.

If this thread was in politics instead of news and current events, I could have said that in 4 words.
