Some in South-east Asia find this fish is delicious if you can get past the bones. Each of the bones branch out so you have a mess of bones. Locally we call it "Big Head Carp" as the head is huge.

But here in Singapore, it's quite a delicacy. We eat the head where there are lots of squishy bits once you steam it, then heat up some oil or lard until it's unreasonably hot, throw in some scallions to make the oil fragrant, then pour the oil over the steamed head.

Delicious! but not for the faint-hearted.

or you could just cook it on a peice of 2x4 wood in the oven on 350 degrees for a hour when its done throw away the carp & eat the wood
but in Asia those folks eat anything anyway ok even rats
they put in boiling hot water watch then scream till their death boil them for awhile then eatum up

That sounds remarkably similar to what we do to lobster.

These fish are not native to the great lakes, or the Rivers running to and from the lakes. They are voracious feeders that will starve out and eat the native fish particularly trout, walley, and bass, game fish that are the staple catch of the 7 billion dollar recreational fishing industry. They have the odd behaviour of leaping out of the water when frightened and often hit boaters that motor along the river.

I think I may have seen those on River Monsters...which reminds me, have you ever seen a West Nile Perch?

I dunno about this one in particular but on River Monsters, they caught one that weight about 120 lbs. It's a Perch!

Ha. I wondered why I could find so many pictures of them. My hubby would love to go. Better put that on the "Things to do when we go to Egypt" list.

Now catching that with a fly rod would be a real accomplishment!
