Yeah, Wahhabism does indeed seem like quite a problem. During my research for 1 of my papers this last semester, I read a book about how some Egyptians are bringing Wahhabism into their own country, and causing all sorts of problems for Shiites and Coptic Christians. They're even trying to shut down the pretty harmless Sufi Festivals (the whole reason I read about it). My Prof said the government isn't thrilled with them (they have a long history of trying to crush the Muslim Brotherhood, the ancestor of many modern terrorist organizations), but can't because of how popular it's getting. The best option is to destroy Wahhabism at it's root, in the place it's being exported from. Unfortunately, that would be Saudi Arabia.
I think that Wahhabism might die of its own stupidity. First off, they treat women like dirt. And they offer struggle, constant jihad, and death rather than life. Combine all that with the fact that young Muslims have access to information on the internet, and Wahhabism must seem like a poor choice.
History has many examples of people choosing to avoid extreme life styles, such as Athens over Sparta, Boston over Salem, West Germany over East Germany. Seems to me that Muslims will choose an Islam of Peace over an Islam of Jihad. Or, as Christian Missionaries have told me, Muslims will choose Christianity or Buddhism or something that doesn't promote violence.
