obama orders chevy and dodge out of nascar

"In a move sure to spark outrage, the White House announced today that GM and Chrysler must cease participation in NASCAR at the end of the 2009 season if they hope to receive any additional financial aid from the government."

It certainly makes sense. If Chevy and Dodge are operating on government cash, the government should have the ability to tell them they can't sink the money into racing sponsorships.

You realize that these two corporations are, at the moment, running entirely on your tax dollars, yes?

Do you think it's wise or sufficiently American to fund NASCAR using tax dollars?

Can't have them advertise to the millions of people that watch NASCAR.

I know people who have bought new cars and trucks solely because their favorite driver (or brand) won the championship. Sure, they are hillbillies, but still. Sponsorships and advertisement = Sales

Oh please. The vehicles you see in a NASCAR race have virtually nothing to do with the associated car company besides sponsorship and mechanics. The cars are all the same, whether they say Toyota or Ford.

People don't go out and buy a Camry because their favorite NASCAR driver is in a Toyota.

Yes, NASCAR is advertisement and participation in it is good for the brand. But NASCAR participation is expensive and should really be one of the first things considered to get axed when your company is literally bankrupt and is just barely avoiding complete destruction through gargantuan taxpayer loans.

It's communist to put restrictions on how loan money can be spent?

You have a funny definition of communism!
