Ok, so a school teacher in FL has sex with a 14 yr old student and she goes free- no jail time for her.
I was listening to Howard Stern earlier and he said she basically is free cause the judge thought she was "too hot" to go to jail. WTF? Stern said something about "the beautiful people" having all the luck!

What's your thoughts on this?

The "victim" was suffering more due to the trial than due to the "crime". I believe that the right decision was made. I understand the calls for an example to be made of Miss Lafave, but surely if our concern is really for the child involved, we would take the path that involves the least suffering for him.

If one argues that he is an adult and should be able to deal with it in the name of justice, then surely he was also capable of granting consent.

This whole thing is media hype, latched onto because it is a juicy story.

This would NEVER have happend had the offender been male.
You may twist that around as you want, but that is a simple fact.

I can see the logic in trying to avoid the innocent party in this instance from any further suffering but surely this criminal, which is what she is did wrong and needs to be punished for her crime.

There have been cases in Britain of female teachers being jailed for unlawful sexual acts with pupils.

hmmm... sure looks like a big media hype as stumblin said! for one, when does any person being convicted of a crime ever smile for a photo!

What she did is not right. But a prosecuting party typically has the right to drop charges if they wish. In this case "the people" are prosecuting Miss Lafave against the will of the "victim".

On this site, I see a lot of outrage about people acting in their name - "not my president" etc... Are we now condoning it in this case?

If you were the boy, what would you want? Would you want your face and name dragged through the media? Would you want to be in the middle of this scandal? After all of this, will he be able to even have a normal relationship ever again his life? The actions of "the people" are causing this boy more pain and suffering than the crime commited by Miss Lafave. I move for a private suit for damages due to emotional distress to brought against "the people" by "victim".

Oh, not to mention the fact that the media coverage received by Miss Lafave will likely be setting her up for a very lucrative career, much more so than teaching. Prison will likely just allow her to make even more money by selling her story when she get's out.
