One of the things you're taught in the military is about good hygiene of the feet which includes changing your socks on a regular basis. Last thing you want is someone in the field needing to have any medical treatment because their feet are messed up because of wet/dirty socks etc.
Also, it's such a nice feeling to put clean socks on, even if the rest of you is minging!
That makes perfect sense, although as oxymoronic as it sounds, I take really good care of my feet even though they reek.
When you're in a warzone however, any sort of thing that'll hinder your mobility can and will limit your effectiveness and therefore, the squad's effectiveness. If I ever were to serve in the military, I'd end up changing socks fairly regularly..... but that doesn't mean my feet won't be smelly.
I LOVE the feeling of warm, fresh-from-the-dryer socks. It's like two little people are giving your feet a loving, full body hug.
