My step son is getting into Pokemon. I gave in and played a game with him last night. It's actually quite good fun.

But it's a license to print money, I can tell you that. It's specifically engineered to ensure that you must buy thousands of cards in order to build a usable "deck". His dad's been doing it the hard way, and there was no way to build two proper decks out of what he had randomly collected.

I popped out to take a look, and found you can buy pre-built decks, so just bought us one each. Hopefully it'll keep him quiet for a while!

Don't worry, you aren't missing much. And it's a more expensive habit than cocaine.

$4 for 10 cards.
You need 60 cards to make a deck
There are about 10 different types of energy that pokemon need to do things.
They each need different energy to attack/retreat.

You can see that this alone means that it's going to really expensive to build even a basic deck.

After that, it'll cost more and more to make your deck better, since the better cards are more rare so appear less often.

It's business genius, and I take my hat off to the inventor.

Wow pokemon's still going? Everyone used to go crazy for the shiny pokemon cards, if you had one of those at school you were royalty, how sad we all were
