Petty Debate.

So, today my class got totally heated over a completely petty argument but I'd like to get other people's thoughts.

A girl in my class was talking about when she has kids. She was saying that she will never "lie" to her kids and tell them there is a Santa Claus or Easter Bunny etc. She's going to be completely up front with them about everything. This including murderers, rapists, etc.

I can understand her want to be honest with her children and educate them on the bad in the world, but I can't get past the whole Santa Claus thing.

I don't believe in sheltering kids whatsoever, but I think that believing in things like the Easter Bunny is one of the few pure and magical things left in childhood. I just can't fathom not having that to believe in when I was younger.

If my child found happiness in the belief of the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, then why not let them believe it...until they are old enough to understand the history behind the two figures and others.

Some of my greatest memories from childhood involve going to the living room Xmas morning and seeing the cookies left out for Santa were gone, and getting excited about loosing my first tooth rather then scared, because I knew the tooth fairy was coming, so yeah, I cant see being *rather* heartless and not letting kids play those games. Besides, that kid is totally going to ruin it for all the other kids, because they are going to be the one insisting they arent real. Or they could be made fun of for being the only kid that doesnt believe in it all- you know?

How else could you bribe them for an entire year???

Someone called in a show on tv recently and said that her kid had asked what the things were in the corners of the room (they were alarm sensors) She told her kid they were santa cams!!! LMAO

i would be in the opinon of, don't tell there isn't a Santa clause unless they actually ask you directly if there is.

Hahaha. Santa cams. That's adorable.

My mum dealt with it in a different way, because as far as we're all concerned there is no 'santa' but there is really, theres the traditions and everything else so there might not be a person but santa's real enough

She'll change her mind once she realizes that things like that were invented to make children easier to control!
