How do you make rice without it sticking together?

I'm never mastered it in the past and want to give it another shot.
My first attempt at it years ago was disasterous to say the least.
I had to throw away the pot I "tried" to cook it in.

Cook it and then strain it under hot water, and it's best cooked the next day into whatever your cooking.

It's the "cook it" part I have trouble with.

It can be cooked in a Microwave,we do it all the time, then my wife makes fried rice the next day and all the grains stay separate from each other.

I never let it cook until the water has evaporated, I strain and rinse.

I attempted to make it years ago, but what I remember it is being terribly clumped and burnt to the pot. I said I would never try it again.

also, using a teflon coated pot will help a lot. it'll help keep the rice from sticking to the bottom and burning.

I used a bag of white rice and turned it dark brown.
I burnt it and clumped it in a big mess.

I suppose I need to be a lot more exact when following directions.

It sounds like you did burn it,the heat must have been to high and you have to make sure you stir it.
Don't feel bad,I have done wost than that,You don't even want to go there,

eek...okay. next time you go shopping, get long grained white rice.

Here's what I do:

Rinse the rice off first to get rid of any pebbles or hulls and extra starch; until the water runs clear.

I use about a cup of rice for myself and fill the pot with water until it covers the rice and it's about 2 or so inches from the top of the pot...i also add a little salt

I put the water on to boil, when it starts to boil I stir and then turn down the flame all the while stirring so it wont stick.

I let it simmer/boil for about 15-20 minutes after that, but you need to keep stirring. After that I check the rice, i like my rice semi firm semi soft. so at this point i take it off the burner and strain it and rinse again with water.
