The typical use pregnancy rate among COCP users varies depending on the population being studied, ranging from 2-8% per year. The perfect use pregnancy rate of COCPs is 0.3% per year.
However its not the most effective. IUD is.

Also don't forget that birth controls do not prevent STIs. For that always use a condom

Several factors account for typical use effectiveness being lower than perfect use effectiveness:

* mistakes on the part of those providing instructions on how to use the method
* mistakes on the part of the user
* conscious user non-compliance with instructions.

I don't have a link (I rarely do) but it looks more like 1/1000 if you're using it right.

Yeah i reckon so.
However it depends how good you are at taking pill regularly. Even if you miss one day it could lead to pregnacy. (actually happened to my sister) hormonal injection are very effective plus you don't have to worry about taking something everyday

One of my friends got that and it blew her up (weight wise).

I've been on the pill before, and it worked alright for me.

No, it worked out nicely and just as I intended it to the first time. But thanks for asking!

True but then so does the pill, as the pill is classed as a hormonal treatment using the same hormonal drugs as the pill.

IUDs also are often not put into people under a certain age/who have not had kids.

A friend of mine had it put in at 24, which is under the' usual' age.

I thought that was pretty cool.

But then she ended up with a ruptured uterus, which is why they don't give it to people under a certain age/who have not had kids, because of the chances of injury.

I was thinking of getting an IUD until a friend told me this!

mm. Most of the time it's quite safe, but there are freak incidents like this. And it *could* leave you unable to have kids (which is why they think if you're under a certain age you're probably wanting some some day but haven't been able to yet). And I guess that injury doesn't happen with other forms of contraception (even though there are side effects for the others).

My friend is fine though.
