Have you been in counselling?

What has your experience with counselling been?

I've been to one session of therapy, just an initial diagnosis type thing, where I was told that I was intelligent, charming, and in need of 6 months of psychotherapy. That about a year ago, and I've never gone back. It was not a fun experience. The school counselor convinced my mom that I was about to kill myself, and I neded up seeing the best teen psychologist in town. He was about 10 years older than God and talked (3 second pause) about (3 second pause) this (3 second pause) fast. It was a miserable 2 hours.

I'm sorry the experience went to badly for you

Have you thought about maybe trying a different therapist? Or trying a different type of therapy? x

I've been to counseling for a couple of months at the end of 2006/beginning of 2007...

I think it helped me. I mean it did not cure my problems of course but it helped me some.

I don;t think I need it anymore. I considered it at the time, but then I hit a downward spiral last summer, with an abusive boyfriend, and had nowhere to go but up. My outlook on life is so different no. After that summer, whenever something is good, I appreciate it so much more, so everything seems so much better. I still marvel at how amazing my life has really been since then, and it's been good like this for months now.

I went to therapy twice a week for 2 years, after being diagnosed with several personality disorders. It didn't work out for me...the therapist was very nice and caring, and spoke at a regular pace , but talking about things twice a week only made things worse for me. I no longer go to therapy, but I believe that with the right therapist, for some people, therapy is a good thing.

Sorry I didn't check back to this topic sooner. For the record, no, I've never taken any meds for depression, although my mom pushed hard to get me on some.
