What are your thoughts on this one? I just read this article in Orion magazine and it made so much sense to me. What does everyone else think?

i would say more than likely so!
why do you think the mental health services of the western societies are crippled by the amount of people who require their services???
simply bcos its one of the health effects of living in an isolated modern society!

I agree. People were much closer with family and friends in the past. People actually knew and talked with their neighbors. Nowadays people are so "busy" they don't socialize and create as many close contacts as they used to. I also think it is important to have close friends that aren't on the internet so I hope nobody relies totally on the net for friendship.

That was one of the things the article mentioned...saying that people think they have lots of friends because they know tons of internet people, but what really counts are the face to face interactions.

I agree. The advent of the internet has only increased our isolation. We work 24/7 and it is hard to find time for family, much less develop friendships. I think that is why there are so many lonly people out there. I think it is especially hard on people who have an intaverted personallity to bigin with.
