The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King

Harry Potter

The Alex Cross series by James Patterson

I guess I am a big fan of series'. They do give you a much better chance and longer time to become emotionally involved with the characters. And the good series will add dramatic events along the way that draw you into the characters even more. A good book begins with good characters, that is probably why these books are my favorites, they have my favorite characters in them.
