I'm sorry for Johnson in that regard but that's the political reality he walked into. It's not like the landscape was a big secret or anything. Third party always has to cross that hurtle. Whether or not it's fair is immaterial. I'd argue it's a wash, since if none of the media is talking about you than in addition to people not hearing your message, they don't hear what kind of screw ups you did either. The fairness of it is, ultimately, a separate issue. The reality is that if third party wants to succeed, than it needs to start looking at the political realities and start working around them.

Well the political reality needs to change. Finances were not meant to control elections and with the cost of advertisement and campaigns, that is what is happening. He did get some air time tho. Every time he was mentioned it was attached to his gaffs. What is aleppo, not naming a world leader he looks up to etc. They never spoke abut how he wanted to get back to our constitution rights and minimize government spending and infringement on peoples lives. these are things that would've upped his support. So they weren't televised or discussed. Certainly not on a national stage. The good news is that the Libertarian party did have some success at local levels this past election so some progress is being made.

I'm not arguing that the Patriot Act was legal or a good thing. I'm arguing that what you're asking for, basically Patriot Act 2.0, is not a legal or good thing. I'm arguing this mainly because, if I didn't it would be hypocritical. It is hypocritical to criticize government run wiretapping only to turn around and propose the exact same thing be done to politicians. It is hypocritical to throw out the justification of 'national security' but to not do the same with 'accountability'.

Yes, the political reality needs to change. Acting like it already has, however, benefits no one. I can go on and on about how I would like certain things to change, but if I don't connect them to reality, than I can talk about it till I'm blue in the face and it won't amount to anything.
