I was at a wedding luncheon of a couple of friends today. 8)
As like my great friend who got married last year, I'm still smiling as I'm very happy for the couple. He asked me to be the Masters of Ceremony for the thing as it included the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony for the couple to pay respects to their elders, followed by the Solemnisation of Marriage by the Justice of Peace.
It was a formal affair, yet it was kind of informal as the couple are very easy-going and tried to make it as fun as possible. I guess due to the pressures of their relatives, they had to have a "formal" do.
There was a "script" written out for the whole ceremony by the Wedding Planner but it wasn't really followed.
In the midst of the luncheon, there was a traditional toast to the happiness of the couple. So us guys did the Chinese Traditional thing for him with the loudass three cheers of "Yum Seng" (which translates into "drink for success" ) which I swear was the loudest I've ever heard in all the wedding banquets I've ever attended.
*for the uninitiated, we yell and draw out the "Yum" part of the cheer.. the belief is that the longer you draw it out, the more happiness you wish on the couple.. then it's followed by the "Seng"*
We could all see the couple was very happy on their big day.
I'm very glad for them. They are both friends of our group who somehow fell in love and ended up together. We've known them for about 10 years and they've known each other first as friends for as long.
Mostly, us guys are over the moon because we saw the bride go through a bitter and long-drawn out divorce which was fought over more than 2 years. Somewhere in there, the guy comforted her and supported her through it and love grew.
Now, she's with him, I bet they'll be happy as clams together as they really seem to be naturally made for each other.
Well, for myself, I'm... still smiling.
May they have a great and fulfilling journey through life together with much happiness and joy.
