Ello!
I just remembered I left a random journal entry when I was in New York City at the weekend so thought it best that I update it and say what i actually did.
Well... it took me a while to remember what did except for the small fact that I didnt eat any meat or meat products at all over my whole stay in NYC!
Damn my vegan/vegi housemates! Okay, first of all I decided to go NYC like 5 days beforehand hence the lack of awareness. I went with two of my housemates in toronto, both girls. thought mite feel lil uncomfy but didnt at all.
We got there via bus from toronto, which was like a 10 hr bus drive. We went during the night so as to make more of our days there. Was ver tiring. Didnt sleep much on way there. We got there at around 7.30am on fri morning. We walked thru central park to reach out hostel. The hostel was quite nice shame bout the price tho, thought it was going to be much cheaper. But anyhow!
We then went to the natural history museum which was way cool! then had vegan lunch, before going to the metropolitan museum of modern art. If you ever go on a fri. its free to enter between 4 and 8pm. Go straight to the 6th floor... thats where all the famous stuff like the Salvodor Deli's, and picasso's etc are. I had about 10mins to see all this famous stuff. was quite surreal.
We then went to see a rather awful off-broadway play about some famous philosopher. But filled the time tho. We then went to the top of the empire state building. Was a glorious view late at night. We saw someone proposing on the top as well which was SOOOO SWEET! afterwards we made our way to a bar/restaurant downtown. We got back to hostel at bout 1.30am... a VERY long day indeed!
Saturday basically consisted of us walking around downtown thru the east village and chinatown, thru the financial district past ground zero to the staten island ferry. All the day our eyes were delighted with the sights of new york. we may have not done much touristy stuff but we certainly seen NYC. In the evening one of the girls went to a show so it was me and one of the girls for the rest of the evening. We didnt end up going anywhere till bout 11pm. We th8t we wud go to a bar in brooklyn but we never got there cos the subway was so confusing. Was quite a depressing end to the day.
On sunday morning I walked up to St John catherdral before breakfast. we then went to the international centre of photography were they had an interesting exhibition on enviromentalim photo's. We then made our way to Brooklyn to find this nice restaurant. we ended up walking around brooklyn for most the day then. Me and the girl who went the concert ended up walking from manhatten to brooklyn on the brooklyn bridge and then back to the same way to brooklyn after walking again around brooklyn. Again was another side of NYC that never seen. Was quite delightful but all seemed lil familiar. After that we got the subway to grand central to the get the bus back... but we had this performer who started doing break dancing on the train. He started spinning around the poles and was within inches from hitting me. He then hung upside down on the ceiling handle bars with his feet!!! it was so f*****ng crazy, that was frozen to my seat in fear!
Only in New york. Once we got to the bus terminal we had wait for the other girl to turn up who didnt quite like walking other bridges. See turned up just before the bus was to leave. She gave us a lot of heart attacks that weekend with travelling and that. On the way back home (toronto) I just couldnt sleep at all... had too many things on my mind... was sort of down, sort of not looking forward to having to do work again. But who wouldnt be after New York!
Eventually one of the girls joined me and we talked for quite a while about pretty much everything in our lifes... not something ive done too much of whilst been in toronto. was a good bonding session, sure did cheer me up... and then we got home...
The lack of sleep and fact that felt VERY ill (flu) made my monday lectures very interesting. And now the work continues.
The reason for the long journal is mainly so that I dont forget what my new york experience was like... but im also certain a few ppl who still know me on TFS will read this too. |
