Once one accepts non-violence, he suddenly becomes aware of being surrounded by violence. As violence is suffering a way is sought to bring the suffering to an end.

Public entry Gandhi on non-violence
July 16, 2006 @ 01:12:14 am
"A living faith in non-violence is impossible without a living faith in God. A non-violent man can do nothing save by the power and grace of God. Without it he won't have the courage to die without anger, without fear, and without retaliation. Such courage comes from the belief that God sits in the hearts of all and that there should be no fear in the presence of God. The knowledge of the omni-presence of God also means respect for the lives even of those who may be called opponents."

Public entry Non-Violence
February 09, 2006 @ 03:36:50 pm
The essence of non-violence is love: Out of love and the willingness to act selflessly, strategies, tactics, and techniques for non-violent struggle arise naturally.
Non-violence is not a dogma; it is a process. Other struggles may be fueled by greed, hatred, fear, or ignorance, but a non-violent one cannot use such blind sources of energy, for they will destroy those involved and also the struggle itself. Non-violent action, born of awareness of suffering and nurtured by love, is the most effective way to confront adversity.

Public entry Noble Silence
December 20, 2005 @ 02:25:40 am
Many times when we present our thoughts or position on a matter, we can be correct and still fail to speak the truth. The truth reconciles and heals. When we present our position or are attacked for the position we take; we can lose sight of the fact that it can be better not to defend ourselves, than to defend ourselves in a manner that causes another to suffer. When we cause another to suffer, we cause ourselves to suffer. This is violence in thoughts and words. I have taken an opportunity of noble silence to reflect on these things. I am still reflecting on them. Silence becomes noble when it is self instructive. I seek the truth. In the near future I may return to this forum. I hope to be an asset.

Public entry Sunrise
November 15, 2005 @ 05:00:11 pm
In my life I try to make time for a little basic beauty. Sunrise is one of those times. When I view a sunrise, the thought has occurred to me that our most famous artists have tried to copy sunrises and the best that they have to offer is only a crude replica. Sunrises are different each day, each one a masterpiece. I try to have 20-45 minutes to just bear witness to a sunrise. I try to become a part of it. It is awesome and it makes my life more pleasant and joyful. It is time well spent.
