Contest:
The evening sun looks orange and beautiful enticing people to look at with their eyes wide open. But is this harmful for the eyes just like watching the sun during a solar eclipse?
i forgot to mention that i needed a reason too. sorry for inflicting this on you. i just want to win. i never won and i thought tfs combined iqs could help me. thanks.
I would think staring at anything bright for too long is damaging to your eyes, especially something as strong as the sun. If you *can* look at the sun for a second or two without subconsciously pulling away, I don't think it could be *that* dangerous. It's a reflex to look away when something is so bright.
The damage producing UV ray is located directly next to the ?visible rays? in the light spectrum. The visible rays are rays that allow us to see an object when it is present. To be without visible rays would to be in complete darkness (aside from non-natural light sources). With this in mind it is safe to hypothesize that as long as there are visible rays present, there are damaging UV rays present.
I have always been told that to look directly at the sun, it is damaging to your eyes... but never knew for what reason..sorry i couldn't be more help...let me know if u won or find out the answer! ttyl
The sun is not less harmful in the evening....it burns the same UVA and UVB rays no matter where it is, however it is farther away and so you do have to look at it a little longer before the damage occurs. Also if you live closer to the equator it will damage it faster because you are closer to the sun than someone who lives in....Oregon for example.
