Public entry Falling to Earth
August 02, 2007 @ 07:35:33 am
Strange work my heart did today. My wife, son and daughter went down to the cities to visit family. I'm always worried when my kids are on the road. So, I'm watching the news in the way I did when my brother was in 'Nam. (Back then the local news would post the names of soldiers killed that day, and my mom stayed glued to the tv until she was sure all was right.) Then breaking news came on to say that the bridge they take over the Mississippi had collapsed. I have had a habit of b****ing about the price of our cell phone service, but being able to call my wife and know that everyone of mine were fine makes the price shrink to nothing. So sad that so many at this hour are trying to contact their own to no avail, knowing that something like 45-50 cars and trucks are at the bottom of the river with the search for survivors called off till dawn. Too many dead because our governor is a republican that has cut funding for bridge and road repair in order to cut taxes for those in the top five percent of the tax bracket. Better bitter than grieving.

Public entry beach bound baby
January 06, 2007 @ 07:12:16 am
Meant to go to the fish house saturday morning, but got a call from a friend of mine. He's heading down to florida and wanted to know if I wanted to drive along. Damn right! I'm going south! About two weeks in the sun should do me well. Will miss the kids,of course, but absence does make the heart grow fonder. But,boo! No points for me while I'm away. I'll have to double up on the posts when I return. Ta ta.

Public entry ice breaker
January 02, 2007 @ 01:05:36 am
As I left the ice last night having barely been able to drive the mile back to shore due to the near zero visibility, I passed my brother on his way out. I tried my best to warn him that after the rain and quick freeze the ice wasn't safe but he wouldn't listen. This afternoon he called me from his bath tub, trying to warm up, and said that he had fallen through the ice when he walked back to shore. I'd gloat a little(ignoring the fact that he came close to dieing) but he did bring fish home so it might have been worth the dip. Walleye is so delicious. Maybe even "to die for".
