Mysteriously mysterious!
Any idea what might be wrong with my water?

Hey everyone! I have a question that I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some insight on.

I live with three other girls and we noticed a few days ago that our water suddenly has a yellow tint to it. When in the shower it looks as though it is pee. We put some of the water in a bowl in our sink in the kitchen and again it had a yellow tint to it.

Any ideas why this may be happening? Also, any ideas on if this is safe or not? I am going to call my landlord tomorrow but until then I'm a little afraid to shower.

It's probably harmless. Just some sediment getting kicked up by some water main work, new construction, or hydrant use.

Is it on hot and cold? How long as it been discolored?

Just to make sure you can call your local water board to ask them about it. If you're really concerned they should come out and test it for you.

I wouldn't bother talking to the landlord.

It is like that on both hot and cold. It has only been discolored for about three days now.

Thanks for the advice, I will be sure to give them a call to ask what they think may be wrong.

Check the website for the town and the water board. They might have an advisory out.

I would call the city and if they have no explanation for it I would call the landlord. I thought if pipes are old they could cause discoloration in the water and if that is the case, the landlord needs to know about it.

Excess chlorine with excess metal or mineral content. You might possibly want to test for high iron, manganese, or copper content as well as excess chlorine. As far as I know, its not harmful but I'm sure its weird to you.
