I have a two year old English Mastiff and my mom went to let her outside and she spotted a skunk. Went darting after it, got sprayed, backed off for a minute, then started chasing it again and chased it underneath our deck.

Luckily it was a little baby skunk so the stench isn't as foul as it could be.

I told my parents I would help clean her off but they won't let me. I imagine cleaning a 145 pound dog will be a challenge. She hasn't been inside the house since it's happened but the smell is seeping through the cracks on the door and into our house. Yuck.

I have the sudden desire to go shower just to smell something good.

Dogs in general are idiots in my opinion. Lovable idiots, but still..

same thing happened to my bosses dog . had to have him dipped at the vets in the end . often see skunks as road kill out here . drove by one once and it stunk the cab of my truck out for hours .

Believe it or not.. one of the best things to use to cut the skunk smell on idiotic pets is to use Massengil douches. As your dog is very large I would buy several... They come prepacked in well douches.. LOL.. just cut the whole top off and it's easy to spray on and saturate the dog.. Good Luck..

Happened to my friend when we out camping. The spray got on my friends tent and he had to throw it in the dumpster. It took more than a few bathings to get the dog back to original condition.
