Tractor Trailer Fire August 27, 2009 @ 01:29:28 am
God was on my side all the way....
When it comes to driving a big rig, you never know when the unexpected will take place. I start my trip from baltimore at 10 am this morning. I arrived in St. Mary's county in the state of Maryland at 12:30 pm.
As I travel south on route #5 in St. Mary's county a big bug flew into the passenger side window and all I could think of is this bug flying on me and biting as I was driving. I pulled to the side of the road and the bug flew out the same window it flew in.
I continue my trip having only 100 yard before I reach my final destination. My problem was I had to make a turn from the right shoulder of the road with two lane traffic onto a narrow Farm road.
However before i could make my turn, the volts drop from 13 to zero. Then the engine light came on and I seen smoke coming from the hood of the truck. I jump out the truck and as I was backing away Flames came from under the truck. I dial 911 for help. See the pictures below:
The truck did not explode, however everything else in the cab burned. So far the load did not seem to burn. I will travel back in the morning to take more pictures for damage.
There does seem to be a special guardian foe truck drivers at times . With the way some people on the Highways and freeways seem to think that those 18 wheelers can stop on a dime and the other road hazards that are out there . I'm glad to hear another story of a trip that could have ended in a bad way ending ,having a positive ending.
