I have noticed that a few people do this with their journal entries. Sometimes I can see why but, other times I wonder about it. Why not just make it a private entry?

| Because sometimes you just want to say stuff and saying it to yourself doesn't really get it out of your system, but at the same time you don't want to get any type of replies back. Not too complicated to figure out. Or you have something you want to say to one specific person who may or may not know they're being referred to but you know the chances of them reading it are high. Especially if you want to apologize to them or something. |

| And maybe the people you want to read it, aren't on your friends list. |

| I just did a replies off journal cos I had a point to make! I wasn't looking for feed back on this accasion so I hit the replies off |

| I did it on a couple journals. On one of them I was just listing some movies for Maxi...so really didn't need a reply, but I want to update the list so a PM wouldn't work for that. So I guess that falls under the leaving someone a message category. |

Wouldn't pm be a better option in some of those instances? I have read a few of those journals and, I am left with questions. When I see replies off I think well I guess they just want to make a point to someone but, do not really want to discuss it... or hear any third party views.
In my opinion some just read like a pity party for one
Maybe they read like a pity party, but they're not asking for replies, so they aren't actually getting pitied. Either way, yes, some of those options could be better. But what if the person isn't talking to you. Or doesn't like you? And you just want it done and over with what you're trying to say? |

well that is kind of my whole point. I suppose I do have the option of not reading it... but it's there. and I read it, and then I felt sad for that person.
There was another one when I first got here, I think it could have been an interesting topic of discussion (forum thread). Instead it was a journal with replies off.
I would say if it's interesting, ask that person if you could make a thread about it? |

yes but, to me when I see replies off I think they do not want to discuss it any farther. I would be intruding on their privacy so to speak if I pm'd them in regards to that subject.
To each their own... I am just trying to get a little insight. I wonder what the "protocol" is. If you have written such a journal; are you open to discussing it in pm (with just anyone)?
Probably varies for each person. |

yes I imagine it would. I am thinking that the next time I have something really "out there" or controversial to say, I will write a replies off journal... and see what happens.
