Remember AOL? How bout Ask Jeeves? (now ask.com) Lycos? Mapquest? Winamp? (although it's not a website, it was a staple of the time)
I was reading how Winamp was going to be done in 2013 but a deal was made to keep it alive. It WAS owned by AOL but they are selling it off. My brother and I recently started chatting on AIM for nostalgic fun so I have been spending some time on their website. In AOL mail I saw a link to "mapquest" something. People still use the term now, but everyone actually GOES to google maps to get directions. This link took me to mapquest.... Also owned by AOL now. I jokingly sent my brother an email about this and said man, did AOL just buy up the internet of the 90s as it was going out of style? Do you think there will be a resurgence in any of these services?? | |

I think of the Legion of Doom, Masters of Deception, globalHell, and an internet debate about who came 1st ne0h the hacker or Neo in the Matrix...
..and perhaps the greatest hacker ever: comrade (aka Jonathan James). |

| I remember when it was "cool" to put lyrics in your profile info in AIM, and when people could tell whether you were at your computer depending on how your away message responded to them. |

HAHA Right!! And Myspace was another haven for song lyrics... Me and my brother were saying you were considered "cool" if you had an away message! The status symbol of being able to stay online all day and set an away message either meant A) you were in college, or B) were baller and had a dedicated dialup line OR DSL! Ohhhh the days. |
