Up until a few days ago I'd not seen the fish for about two weeks, the pond has been frozen over, it was all I could do to keep the pump from freezing and to ensure a small hole for the inlet pipe to pump oxygenated water into the pond. We are currently having a mild spell, temps have been above freezing for a couple of days and the ice is starting to melt, its only about an inch thick now so shouldnt be too long before its completely thawed. The past few days have enabled me to see how the poor fish have faired during the freeze and the big white fish has not moved for 3 days that I know of, the others are swimming around her but she's still not moving, I will be so crushed if I've lost her, she's my favorite as soon as the rest of the ice has gone ill be able to assess things a little better, temps went down to minus 18C at times but its been prolonged, we've had this severe weather for some two months now, keep your fingers crossed. | |

| Fish know their s***. It'll be fine. It's nature. And how did you know it was female? |

| My fish often do that and they always turn out fine, they've made it through the cold spell so I hope yours has too |

| Im worried about mine too. We got freezing temps way faster than I anticipated, and my little pond froze solid before I could bring mine in. I only have goldfish and they are super resilient, however, I am worried as there were some days where it was frozen solid with no air hole. I have since bought a deicer that keeps a hole in the ice for gases to escape.
I hope your fish makes it Karma!!! It could be that its metabolism is just so slowed to a crawl that it is not moving but might be fine when it is warmer. It is a different type of fish than the ones that are moving around? Is it koi and the others are goldfish perhaps? If so, that could be why....goldfish still move around a bit more than koi when it is cold based on what I have seen out of my own fish in the winter. |

| I think she will be fine; probably just in a sort of state of hibernation, to endure the temps. |

| Thanks for the replies, im taking her out of the pond tomorrow I've set up the nursery pond in the garage and once she's in it ill heat it up slowly to see if it helps, I've got a spare pump for it. She's a koi and a large one at that, about 22 inches long and rather fat, thats how I know she's female, male koi have a very sleek body where as females have a bigger underside, nothing changes eh The others both koi and goldfish are swimming around, its out of character for her to be so listless, she's the nosey one of all of them, not like her to be so unresponsive, ill see how it goes tomorrow and keep you posted. |
