Bah humbug, most over-rated band and members around, a few good ditties and a lot of commercial tripe, and a lot of money spent on publicity, classic example of.."There's one born every minute" in action!
From the Grump of the North!

How do you explain a metalhead like me to be such a huge fan, especially having been born 3 years, AFTER John Lennon was shot?

I could not agree more Marcus, although the Sgt Peppers album was semi ok. And now I'm going to commit blasphemy and say Elvis was just as overrated too.

I'm NOT going near THAT one, lol, other than to say.."There's no accounting for tastes"
And I agree about Elvis, although he did do a couple of my favourite songs, In The Ghetto, for one.
Try this..

Dude, in the ghetto is one of my favorite songs!
But as for the beatles and Elvis being overrated, not by a long shot! Considering how much music everyone listens to now, their influences will ultimately be traced back to Elvis or the beatles. You want to talk about commercialism? The monkees, the partridge family, all that kinda stuff on the coat tails of the beatles. Did you know that the beatles were the first artist/group to record, and then use guitar feedback?
Ahhh, how the myth grows with the re-telling, lol!
The beatles were a totally commercial band, and their music the same pop-tripe as everyone else was producing at the time. They jumped on every popular "band-wagon" that came along and ran with it, until it stopped making them money, then dropped it like a hot rock.
Elvis was another totally commercially controlled performer, he was TOLD what songs and movies to make, and had NO control over his own career, that's the way the industry generally works, especially back then.
They became famous for being famous, a trend we still see in the Jackson weirdo, madonna, and others, alleged talent has little to do with it.
It's ALL about dollars, spent on publicity and promotion, made from them etc etc, buying their own albums, by the THOUSANDS, is a common practice, lol, it's a CON!
