Harm
Premise: It is alright to harm your self as long as it does not harm anyone else.
It is illegal for you to act in a way that may harm you.
The law will harm you if you do it because if you do it may harm you.
Hmmmm???
It is illegal for you to act in a way that may harm you; even though doing it does not harm anyone else.
Premise: Unless living in complete isolation it is not possible to do anything that has a potential for harming others.
I may be wrong, but don't you mean it's not possible to do anything that doesn't have the potential to harm others? |

The people in your examples are only interested in freedom for themselves.
Yes, you are correct.
I find it a sad.
It is a different topic, but... "we" Americans frequently say things like "when the going gets tough, we join together and help each other."
However, when things are "normal" we couldn't give a sh*t about each other and will f**k each other in a heart beat. |

When can a government (legitimately) impose laws restricting freedoms?
All the time. |

| Cheating and swindling seem to be the norm.
I wonder why |

I cannot beat that one.
I have a tenant who says she cannot afford to pay her rent. She has money for cigarettes, alcohol, recreational drugs (speculation on my part) she has money foe premium cable, high speed internet; but she just can't scrape together enough money to pay her rent. And ...and if I evict her I am the bad guy. Splan me dat... |

My brother in law, who is one of the dumbest smart people I have ever known, once had utility companies threatening to turn off services. The electric company was one of them.
He got his paycheck and after making rent and car payments, buying groceries, etc, had enough to pay his water bill and one other bill. And he paid the cable bill.
Now...if you don't have electricity...how much use is paying the cable bill...
