Personal Happiness.

What do you get the most happiness from?

Honestly, there are a lot of things that keep me happy. I never focus on one thing, it's always a collection of things.
I'm having a good day today, but it's kind of a little off kilter because I didn't sleep well, so I figure that if I write out everything that makes me happy during the day, then I won't have to worry about my off kilter day turning sour.

One thing is all of the people, I think this deserves a little explanation, because I work (I work in a chow hall. I don't COOK in the chow hall, I just work there as force and asset protection) with a broad variety of people...
There are two ladies that come into the chow hall every morning together. One is a Major and the other one is a Captain, and they are the sweetest things you could ever meet. Both of them have to be near their 50's, and together they giggle like two school girls... But, when you separate them, they are lost looking. They act as if they don't know what to do without one another. They aren't a couple, they are just two very best friends that met on this deployment and one can't function without the other. It's cute to see them together because they have grins the size of the Cheshire Cat and they are always so friendly to everyone.
There is some older folk that come through that I really can't get enough of. One is a Major named Payne. Yes, really. I couldn't believe it at first, because a lot of people use fake names on their uniforms to protect their identity but this guy was proud. He's actually a really nice white guy in his 60's. He's always coming in making jokes and having a real fun time with everyone. I told him one day I'll get him to take a picture with me so one day I will have proof that I actually talked to MAJ Payne every morning for breakfast.
Oh, another one is a LtCol who is really a nice guy. I would say mid 50's or else he just ages very well. He comes in every day with a giant smile on his face and a story to tell. He never will even hesitate to ask (and listen to) how your day is going. He was actually having a bad day yesterday, so I went "Sit, you need a hug today?" And he comes back with, "I sure do!" And sure as s***, right there in front of everyone I got to hug a LtCol. This morning he came up to me and shook my hand, saying that I made his whole day better. I told him he returned the favor because he also made my bad day better as well!
And Thee MAJ. I really can't tell you enough about this guy for you to understand how cool he really is. He's actually best friends with my room mate. He actually goes out and looks for people who aren't doing the right thing... For people who are picking on soldiers and/or making other peoples' lives hell. He will go out and find them and then fight them tooth and nail through the legal system until they behave. He stands up for the little guys who has no chance otherwise. I guess people can do that when they're best friends with the General and damn fine lawyers!

So, people are one of the best parts of my day. I hardly have anyone HERE that tries to cut me down in any way shape or form.

Another thing I love about my day, is my hours. I work the nicest schedule of this whole FOB, actually. I work from 5am-2pm with a two hour break from 9am-11am everyday except Saturdays, which are my days off. I love it because most people here work a 12 hour shift (although on the flip-side, they get three days off a week, where as I only get one) and when you work that 12 hour shift (I know because I've done it) you're so tired by the end of the day that there's no energy left but to sleep! I try my best to make these peoples' days just a little bit better.

Another thing that keeps me happy is that I live close to the green beans coffee shop (lol, I'm from Seattle okay? I can't live without my coffee!) And the guys in there are really nice. They actually joke around and have fun even though they work very long shifts with little to no breaks.

Umm. I think another thing that keeps me happy is all the books I have here. Every time I start to get in a bad mood, I read for a bit and feel better.

Oh! The BEST thing about my day, is getting on TFS to joke around and piss people off! Let out my aggression here and then there's nothing to be pissed off about when I go back into work!
And DPD. Can't get any better than DPD. Oh! And yesterday I totally beat Fritzy at points and posts. I'm just saying, that was really the highlight of my day.

SO! What do you use to keep yourself motivated and happy throughout the day?

Interesting question...

Lets see...

Well it's nice to know there is someone in the world that can think of themselves being with me and smile about it.

It's nice to have someone to write to. It's nice to get letters back from that person to. Yeah, that makes me happy. I have a box full of those.

I've seen baby birds hatch from eggs that my pets laid. I've grown plants from seeds and watched every new leaf form practically over night. These are amazing things. That makes me happy to because I had a part in that, however small.

There are a lot of things in life that suck. Politics, money, prejudices of all kinds, waking up to find no milk left for that bowl of raisin brand you just poured...

It kind of goes full circle back to that someone in the world that smiles when they think about being with you. Whether they really are or not, it's still nice to know they think that much of you. It starts with a thought. It really can only go up from there. Everything else doesn't seem as crappy when you remember that one sweet thought.

What I like to do is say or do something to or for people to make their day. Trying to renew their faith in Humanity that there is still hope for us Humans. Little things such as holding a door open for them, letting someone in when pulling out of a driveway when there's heavy traffic, offering assistance when I see that they could possibly use some. Doing things for other people helps brighten my day.
