This is my wonderful city, Gisborne on The Luscious East Coast of New Zealand, Aotearoa. Around 33,000 people and it's the first City to see the sunlight from our maunga (Mountain) of Hikurangi belonging to the Maori Tribe of Ngati Porou, where some descendants have connections to the Spanish Trader of Emmanuel Hose. I am of Ngati Porou descendancy but I don't have connections to the Hispanic Connection. I also have Maori tribal (iwi) and sub-tribe (Haapu) affiliations all around this region. Iwi: Ngati Porou (Wharekahika). Te-Aitanga-a-Mahaki (Te-Waituhi-a-Maia. Rongowhakaata (Manutuke) and Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairoa (Whakaki, Kihitu, Tuhura). Haapu: Nga Potiki, Ngati Maru and Whanau o Tuwhakairiora. Otherwise, a beautiful City!

| Gisborne was also the place for the First Meeting between European Voyager James Cook and Maori. Conversation was made via a Tahitian Chief who intepreted because Tahitian and Maori are basically the same language, The Chief was Tupaia.
The First meeting on the once large rock of Te-Toka-a-Taiao (The rock of meeting) wasn't cherry!. It was a kind of a mini war and so on. E-Mail me and I might know a bit to pass onto you if you are interested!. (ngapotikitakuhapu @aol. co.nz) |
