He's a Libertarian, which is just a step up from an Anarchist (and from what I've read some places consider them the same thing). You're really that surprised?

Bush called a national emergency and sent in FEMA. He did everything he's supposed to do and could do.

crazylikeafox - your right. didn't bush take more longer to get the aid to the people, than he should? i remember see the news that in new orlean, that they were waiting for help, took days for that happen! i remember how the media and the victims reacted to lack of hope, they got from the government.

He called a national emergeny and sent in FEMA before the hurricane even hit. It's more complex than "let's blame the President" and really involves the city, state, and federal governments, but if you want a simple answer the biggest problem was that FEMA and the local governments didn't communicate with each other like they should've.

On edit:

Also worth noting is the fact that many of the people that stayed behind thought they could handle it because they survived Hurricane Betsy in 1965, not realizing Katrina was a worse hurricane, far worse than any other hurricane that's ever hit the area in recorded history. I don't know if they weren't aware because the government didn't do a good job explaining the danger, or if it was a simple lack of understanding scale humans have always had trouble with. Perhaps it was both.

Well, he's mostly right. People should have insurance to cover that sort of thing, or not live in Tornado alley.

There should be some type of emergency loans to help people get through before insurance comes in.

I would think that it would be mandatory for homeowners to have insurance that live in those areas.
