Trust me...it works real good. My sister tried doing the same thing yours did...only she hit a brick wall instead of door.

...and EVEN better, after you get the bar door made go get one of one those plastic 1 lb. propane tank bottoms and wedge it under the door. When the door opens, the thing digs itself into the floor and makes the door hard to push upon. With the door bar AND the propane tank bottom your sister has about an ice cube's chance in hell getting through the door short of taking an ax to it.
