my credit score

i tried doing my credit report and they told me i owed money to this company called afni and i dont know who it is i know its a collection company but it said i owed money to them 3 years ago under utilities and i know the only thing i should have on my credit is cellphone companies and i know i have never paid utilities to anyone before and 3 years ago i had cricket 2 years before that i had tmobile and a month before that i had nextel and i know i owe both of them money but i dont know who its from so i wondering if anyone here did.

You need to contact the company and ask specifically for what it is for. Could one of your family members have had utilities in your name? It happens all the time.

There is no possible way we can know who you owe money to.

no not that i know of it could have been my dad but he doesnt know my social security number and 3 years ago he was living here so it couldnt have been him and know my brother and my mom would never do that and my sister is married and so she has all her stuff in her own name or her husbands name.

no i meant if someone else owed money to the same company and had to pay it to them.

Contact the collection agency and they'll be able to tell you what it is for and then you can go from there.

no it doesnt say anything it just tells me the name of the company and that i owe them 411.00

You need to contact them and find out where they got this debt. Ask them to prove to you that you owe them money.

Then, once they do, pay them.

I had something similar on mine. Call whoever you go the credit report from and tell them that you aren't sure who you are supposed to pay and they should be able to provide you with a number.

Turns out mine was a ticket I got for speeding through an intersection. A camera snapped a picture of me and determined that I was speeding and they proceeded to harass some folks who lived at the address I did five years ago. My violation apparently happened three years ago but only popped up on my credit about two months ago.

Isn't technology grand.

I am disputing mine because I figure you have a right to be told you owe money before someone reports you to collections.

I'm not difficult to find, a google of my name produces all kinds of results including one with my phone number in it right at the top. These people drive me nuts.
