"These are the Two great commandments.Thou shalt love thy God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. The second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbors as thy selves. On these two commandments hang all the law of the prophets".
From this, it appears to me that both intertwine with each other.

Love your neighbor
If you hate God or don't believe in him he'll understand...if he doesn't then he isn't God and you have nuttin ta worry about.

Neighbor.
Certainly this is more important because even if there just so happens to be a god, the people around you are the ones who carry you through the life that would determine the afterlife.
Just makes sense to me, if you were born in a place completely empty of people (and consequently literature written by people, movies, etc) you wouldn't have heard about any gods in the first place.
You are all missing a the vitally important point of the second greatest commandment.
It is like the first because it is like the first.
The second greatest commandment is telling you to deny yourself totally and give your entire being over to God.
Love your neighbour AS YOURSELF.
If you were to feed all your neighbours, give all your neighbours shelter and care, and visit all your neighbours (remembering that your neighbour is defined as anyone who has mercy on you) then you would not be livingthe life of torment you currently are.
Yet weep and gnash you do.
God bless you.
